Small businesses need to protect themselves against employment tribunals
Local HR firm, TurnstoneHR, is encouraging all local business to protect themselves from employment tribunals by making sure they understand, and follow, the correct procedures when dealing with disciplinary issues.
The HR company, based on Walney Road in Barrow-in-Furness, provides bespoke HR support for small and medium sized business, and is offering all local businesses the chance to attend a FREE seminar to learn how to protect themselves against potentially difficult and expensive employment tribunals.
According to TurnstoneHR’s Managing Director, Phil Collier, disciplinary issues can be one of the most complicated matters that any business deals with – and small businesses can be particularly vulnerable if they do not have the necessary policies and procedures in place.
He said: “As with many HR issues, it can sometimes be tempting to leave things until the absolute need arises. However, doing this can lead to much bigger problems further down the line. It’s essential that all businesses, no matter how small, protect themselves against employment tribunals – none of us are immune. That means not only making sure they have the correct policies and procedures in place, but that these are communicated to employees – regardless of how few of them there are – and are applied in the right way.”
He continued: “Being clear from the outset as to what behaviour is acceptable, and what is not, as well as keeping accurate records is what could make the difference to the outcome of an employment tribunal. When it comes to disciplinary issues, it is vital to avoid any ambiguity.”
The seminar will be held at Lancaster & Morecambe College on 18 October. For more information and to book a place see here.
