Local Businessman launches Charity Album

Local business owner Phil Collier is launching a charity album on Friday 25 October in support of St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston and St John’s Hospice in Lancaster.

The album of original songs by Phil features a host of accompanying local artists, and aims to raise £5K for each of the hospices.

Phil Collier, owner and Managing Director of local business TurnstonHR, began his musical career 40 years ago in 1973, when, having taught himself to play the guitar, he wrote his 1st song. During the late 1970s through to the mid 1980s, Phil fronted two bands, ‘Buzzard’ and then ‘Phil Collier and the Flying Fist Band’, and was a regular on the club and pub scene in Liverpool.  When the band split in 1984, Phil continued to perform as a solo artist for five years before winding down to concentrate on his career as an HR specialist.

Even though he was not performing, Phil continued to write songs, and in 2012 he took to the stage once more – when he was persuaded to perform an impromptu set after a gig by local band, Tingle Trees.

Phil’s love for performing was reignited and he decided to put his some of songs to good use and help some of TurnstoneHR’s charity clients – St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston and St John’s Hospice in Lancaster.

Phil writes an eclectic mix of folk, blues and rock and, although his early influences included Ralph McTell, The Eagles, The Moody Blues and, of course, Bob Dylan, over the years he has developed his own style and sound.

Following the launch there will be two additional evenings of live music from the album:

Friday 8 November – Crooklands Garden Centre, Dalton-in-Furness.

Saturday 23 November – More Music, Morecambe.
